MARTINI 5 AND 6 SILK-SCREENED LIVERY
A BIT OF HISTORY
Everyone knows the history of the Martini 5 and 6 liveries which were born in 1992 and 1993 as special series to commemorate Lancia's legendary consecutive victories at the World Rally Championships.
What not everyone remembers is that the liveries of these special road cars were produced by silk-screen printing, i.e. through a printing process that used only one color at a time and which involved the use of a silk screen stretched over a frame and special layers of gelatin spray film to cover the parts that had to be impervious to the inks. This process, every time it was used, necessarily required the production of many hundreds of copies.
The final result was a livery with a very dense color coating, strong and homogeneous solid colors and clear boundaries between the stripes, the presence of small steps between the colors. Furthermore, the Martini blue, light blue and red colors were superimposed in a precise order, different from that of the classic Martini livery that is painted on rally cars.
STUDY AND RESEARCH
Today, screen printing to create Martini liveries is no longer practiced, for many years the replicas of these liveries have only been found in the form of digital printing, therefore with a less clear separation between the colors, less homogeneous solid colors and with a completely adhesive smooth.
We perceived in enthusiasts the desire to be able to mount on their cars, often Lancia Delta former work or original cars, the real graphics created in silk-screen printing as in the past and this is how we set to work to enrich our knowledge and be able to offer , for those who wished, the possibility of being able to admire these silk-screen printed stickers on the bodies of their cars.
Our starting point is always the original, so the reference basis were the original samples of Martini 6 stickers in our possession.
Naturally it was neither easy nor quick to learn to purchase the right materials and tools suitable for this type of work and acquire the right manual skills, but now that we have mastered the technique and that we have observed the final result we can say that it was truly worth the effort. sorry. And we are sure that even all the most demanding enthusiasts with the most historical memory will think the same thing!
